Quintic Automatic Report
The Quintic Automatic Gait Report has been developed in order to produce detailed analysis of an individual’s gait in an applied setting.
Number of Cameras
The gait report is designed for use with up to FIVE cameras (front, back, right, left and a “zoomed in” back view) in order to provide a full and comprehensive report. It is strongly recommended that a fixed camera set-up is used to ensure consistent and accurate data collection. It is possible to use fewer cameras, but the full data analysis will not be produced, for example either the right or the left side view individually. The Alpha / Beta Angles can be measured and uploaded into the report from just one video file. For ‘in the field analysis’ use of the Gait Report, it is recommended the user has a strong knowledge of sports biomechanics and experience in camera set-up protocol.
Analysis Options & Number of Trials
Option 1. Treadmill Analysis: Capture a single set of videos containing 10 strides in one recording.
Option 2. Over Ground Analysis: Capture 5 separate sets of videos, one for each stride/trial.
Anatomical Marking
To generate a complete report, reflective markers need to be positioned on the below anatomical landmarks:

One high-speed camera (per view) is used to capture the movement with the reflective markers placed in the appropriate anatomical positionsl. Each video/trial is then digitised in the Quintic Biomechanics software and the smoothed data exported to Microsoft Excel.
Once this process is complete, the PDF report can be created using the relevant bolt-on Quintic Automatic Report software. Basic information to be included in the report (e.g. name, height, weight, DOB, injury history, running shoe…) is to be entered manually and a profile created for that individual.The relevant Excel files are then loaded into the report software and the PDF report is automatically generated, including the calculation of key time events and variables. This means that time does not need to be spent calculating the key variables and attempting to determine where the key frames are in the video.
Report Output
The Quintic Automatic Gait Report includes graphs, diagrams and statistics for following:
- Stride Characteristics: Step Length, Stride Time, Stance / Swing Phase, Time to Knee over Ankle, Time to Maximum Knee Flexion & Time to Toe off
- Horizontal & Vertical Velocities: Hip, Thigh, Knee, Shank, Ankle & Foot
- Angular Displacements & Velocities: Hip, Knee, Ankle, Foot
- Shoulder & Pelvis Lines
- Intersection Angles: Spine/Shoulder, Spine/Pelvis & Pronation/Supination
- Thigh & Shank Angles
You also have the option to upload still image snapshots taken within the Quintic Biomechanics software in order to provide visual feedback and emphasise a particular point of the individual’s gait.
